Angelico díMorte – Scene 1

(NOTE: Angelico’s basic facial features remain
constant, though his skin tone, makeup, and
costuming ranges several early groups of the
Americas.)

THE X-FILES VERSION

“Angelico díMorte”

ACT ONE

FADE IN:

EXT. PACIFIC COAST HIGHWAY, SOUTHERN
CALIFORNIA – DAY – DOWNHILL CURVE OF THE
SOUTHBOUND LANE (11:58 AM)

A fancy sports car passes quickly by.

Loud MUSIC blares out open windows. Tires SQUEAL.

The car moves through several sharp turns and a
long stretch.

The DRIVER takes the final sip from an aluminum
can.

Driver squeezes the sides together and throws the
can out the passenger window.

The can hits a No-Littering sign.

The can comes back into the car and lands on the
passenger seat.

Driver jumps and wipes his face from the spray.

DRIVER
What the…?

Driver grabs the can and waits for a deep gorge.

Driver throws the aluminum husk out the passenger
window as hard as he can.

The can sails out of sight.

The can mysteriously enters the car through the
Passenger’s window and lands on the floor.

Driver is startled and almost loses control of
the car.

The vehicle swerves into the oncoming lane then
back to the southbound lane.

A northbound commuter HONKS his horn as he passes
by.

A thought comes through the driver’s intuition
channel.

2.

ANGELICO
Planet Earth is your home.

Driver fumbles for the can.

He mumbles as he throws the litter again.

DRIVER
Screw you, planet Earth.

Driver rolls up the passenger window.

He gasses his car down a long stretch.

The can mysteriously sails through the driver’s
window and hits him in the face. Blood streams
from a small gash.

Driver’s reaction causes him to lose control of
the car.

We continue MOVING south as we watch the car
crash into a large boulder.

PAN south, gain altitude, and FLY away from the
scene.

We accelerate to a tremendous speed. A loud
RUSHING sound is heard.

EXT. SOMEWHERE IN SOUTH AMERICA – DAY –
LUSH GREEN JUNGLE (3:58 PM)

We turn to see workers and machinery clearing a
road toward us. Earthmovers scrape the ground
clean as workers cut trees and brush down.

A view of the jungle shows a native rain forest
Indian (ANGELICO) materialize several meters
away.

He walks toward the clearing.

Angelico stops and observes the destruction
coming his way.

Angelico waves his hand over the approaching
onslaught. All machinery ceases to function.

SERIES OF SHOTS show confused workers trying to
start their chain saws, tractors, and
earthmovers.

Several workers are successful but their
machinery dies when it is brought close to
anything living.

The workers notice Angelico. Several men yell
obscenities toward the figure.

A worker jumps down from his earthmover with a
rifle in his hands.

3.

The rifleman aims toward Angelico and fires
several shots over Angelico’s head.

Angelico shows an unflinching and determined face
as he stands his ground.

The rifleman re-adjusting his aim, lining the
sights up with Angelico’s chest.

He pulls the trigger.

The gun blast is followed by the rifleman
mysteriously falling dead from his own bullet.

Several workers hurry to the dead man’s side and
turn him over onto his back. They are shocked to
see the bullet wound.

Angelico defiantly stands with the forest in the
b.g.

A worker draws a knife and screams as he runs
toward Angelico.

Angelico does not move as the worker slashes
across the Indian’s body. The intended wound
instantly appears on the worker’s own body.

He clutches the gaping cut and screams in pain.
Terror fills his eyes as he turns and runs.

The other dumbfounded workers follow him.

We RISE straight up.

The RUSHING sound is heard and continues.

EXT. JEFFERSON, NEW HAMPSHIRE – DAY –
FLYING ABOVE A WOODED AREA (5:50 PM)

The RUSHING sound subsides. We FLOAT DOWN to a
path just outside a trash filled, fenced yard of
a solitary house.

We continue away from the yard,

toward the trees,

and along a deep ravine.

Arc down into the ravine following another path.

We stop near a collection of boulders and a large
wood storage box.

MOVE toward the barricaded door of the box.

With a RUSHING sound, PASS THROUGH the molecules
of wood to the dark interior.

We MOVE toward sunlight streaming through a small
air vent in the ceiling.

We hear a young girl singing inside the box.

YOUNG GIRL (O.S.)
Jesus loves me…

We PAN DOWN to the girl looking up into the
light.

YOUNG GIRL
(continuing)
He told me so.
(beat)
He’s going to come and save my
soul. Whether I’m awake or
whether I’m asleep. I pray for
him my soul to keep.

Young girl gasps as tiny sparkles of bright
luminescence cascade down from the shaft of
sunlight.

The sparkles form into an elderly native North
American in ancient tribal costume. He is
holding a flaming torch.

A CLOSE SHOT on the Indian reveals that it is
Angelico.

He reaches his free hand over to the curious
girl.

ANGELICO
Don’t worry, my princess. I am
here to protect you. You will be
saved soon.

The girl grabs Angelico’s hand.

EXT. BACKYARD OF THE SOLITARY HOUSE – DAY
(5:58 PM)

Garbage and junk litters the entire yard.

CLOSE on half-buried, rotting flesh covered with
flies.

The end of a walking stick smacks the grave and
the flies take to the air.

The SERIAL KILLER walks into view and continues
forward.

We MOVE behind and with him toward the corner of
the yard and through the gate.

The serial killer follows the path to the ravine.

We MOVE up closer behind the serial killer before
he starts down the path into the ravine.

5.

Serial killer turns toward us. He is startled.

SERIAL KILLER
Who the hell are you?!

The serial killer starts to swing his walking
stick at Angelico. Angelico slams his hands
into the serial killer’s chest and knocks him
over the cliff.

Angelico cracks a willow branch between his
hands as the serial killer hits the rocks below.

INT. STORAGE BOX – DARKNESS (6:00 PM)

Light floods in as the door to the storage box
is opened.

A uniformed SHERIFF stands at the entrance.

The young girl moves into view.

YOUNG GIRL
Did my friend tell you where I
was?

SHERIFF
(surprised)
Who’s your friend?

YOUNG GIRL
Angelico. He said you would find
me soon, and you did.

Sheriff helps the girl out of the box.

SHERIFF
Tell me all about him, okay?

The sheriff leads the young girl away from the
scene.

Forensic specialists haul the dead serial
killer’s body out of the ravine.

EXT. SUNSET CLIFFS, SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA –
IN THE SURF (5:00 PM)

NEW ARRIVAL’S POV as an ocean breaker forms and
comes straight for us.

POV submerges and punches through the back of
the wave.

Two surfers are sitting on their boards just past
the breakers. They look in our direction and
become immediately territorial.

SHMUCKO
Beat it, goon.

6.

The new arrival looks toward the two then paddles
south, away from the jerks.

SHMUCKO
We were here first.

SHMUCKCICLE
(laughing)
Don’t make us kick your ass, punk.

The new arrival tries for the current breaker.

He fails.

The shmuck brothers head south toward their
adversary as a larger wave forms outside their
position.

The two antagonists set up an attack on the new
arrival.

Shmucko cuts in front of the new arrival to slow
him down.

Shmuckcicle comes up behind and bumps surfboards,

knocking new arrival into the water.

Shmuckcicle aims the point of his board at the
submerging form but misses.

The shmuck boys regroup and hurl insults at the
retreating surfer.

EXT. SUNSET CLIFFS – PARKED CAR

overlooking the ocean and sunset.

The shmuck brothers load their gear and continue
to boast about their self-centered deed.

SHMUCKO
That punk had it coming.

SHMUCKCICLE
I came so close to nailing him.

Shmuckcicle drives his car off the dirt onto the
main road heading north.

Several cars are approaching in the oncoming
lane. The spectacular sunset is still evident
out the front and Driver’s window.

Shmuckcicle looks up to his interior rear view
mirror.

Shmuckcicle sees Angelico’s reflection staring at
him in the mirror — from right behind him.

7.

Angelico reaches around and punches Shmuckcicle
in the right side of his face.

The car swerves out of control across oncoming
traffic.

The other vehicles try to avoid the
out-of-control car.

The car hits the curb and cartwheels over the
guardrail and cliff.

The car crashes up side down on the rocks and
pounding surf below.

Shmucko’s dreamlike POV. He is dead, yet
trapped within his mangled body. His spirit
body is disoriented.

Shmuckcicle is alive but trapped in a contorted
position. He calls to his friend, but to no
avail.

SHMUCKCICLE
Hey. You okay? Can you hear me?

A wave breaks.

Seawater gushes through the broken windows.

Hungry crabs climb the rocks toward the free
meal.

Both victims scream.

FADE OUT.

END OF ACT ONE
